What works out better for one may not be applicable for the other. Hence, we will be discussing various ways to take the first step towards your spiritual journey.

Your choice of the spiritual path depends on what you are seeking out of it. It can be inner peace, awareness, connection with something large or even inquisitiveness towards finding the true purpose of life. It’s better to try one or more of these practices and assess what helps you in your pursuit.

No matter which route you choose, discipline, perseverance and patience are common prerequisites for any spiritual practice. Also, one should be ready to shatter the old beliefs and patterns of life.

Meditation is one of the most common and fruitful spiritual practices. The basic idea of meditation is to observe the chattering of mind and keep a neutral opinion towards it. With continuous practice, you will start to disassociate yourself from your thoughts. This will help you to connect with your inner being and feel its magnificence.

As a beginner, you can start meditation without any guidance by simply focusing on your breath. If you think it’s challenging you can seek help from various meditation apps as well.

The other very powerful method of meditation is chanting. This method is usually followed by practitioners of various religious faiths. Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity,  Judaism, Islam etc. have offered different spells (‘mantras’ as said in Sanskrit) for chanting meditation.

Journal is your friend who listens to you without any judgments and keeps all your secrets. Isn’t this great? It’s an amazing way to keep expressing your heart and mind by writing how and what you feel. Apart from an exceptional method to help one with anxiety, fear, stress, depression etc., it helps with spiritual progress also.

A journal helps you to keep a record of your thoughts and emotions. When you read through about how you have felt about something in the past, it gives you the perspective of the largeness of life. What was so troubling, fearing or even exciting in the past, may not have any significance in the present. This will remind you of one of the most important spiritual lessons, that life exists only in the present, neither in past nor in future.

Get Started:

Set aside 5-10 minutes to reflect upon your day. You can either buy a Journal workbook or simply take a blank diary and start writing. There are various ways and prompts to journal. Choose what suits you best.
