NIMH Director Highlights On Effective Treatment For Clinical Depression

In a recent interview with Face of the Nation, the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, Dr. Joshua Gordon talked about stroke induced depression. He also spoke about effective treatment for clinical depression.

He said “Low motivation, sadness, challenges with sleep , appetite, energy, loss of motivation etc. are some of the symptoms of stroke induced depression. Fortunately there are effective treatments of clinical depression. The timelines of the treatment depends on person to person. The treatment is generally a combination of medications and psychotherapy”.

Further, Dr. Gordon highlighted the role of parents in handling the deteriorating mental health among teenagers, especially girls , saying “Parents need to talk and listen to their children. They need to be there for their kids to understand them.”
